Where can I get a personal loan in India?
In short
From a bank, an NBFC, a regulated digital lender, or a marketplace that puts your profile in front of several of them at once; each route prices the same borrower differently, so the answer that saves money is the one that shows you more than one offer. Anywhere that asks for a fee before disbursal, or cannot name the RBI-regulated lender behind it, is not a place to get a loan.

The five places, and who each suits
All five are regulated. They differ in who they say yes to and what they charge.
| Your salary-account bank | Fastest for a clean, salaried profile — it already sees your credits — and rarely the cheapest, because it assumes you will not shop |
|---|---|
| Other banks | Often lower rates for strong profiles; more paperwork; branch or app |
| NBFCs | Say yes to thinner and self-employed profiles more often; price higher for the risk; fast, digital |
| Digital lenders | Regulated NBFCs and banks lending through an app: minutes to decide for salaried borrowers with e-KYC; smaller amounts, higher rates for new files |
| A marketplace (LSP) | One check, several of the above at once, each offer with its Key Fact Statement; the lender still lends. Finsa is one of these |
When a secured loan is the smarter place
If you hold a fixed deposit or gold, a loan against it is usually cheaper than any unsecured personal loan and almost indifferent to your credit score, because the lender has the asset. It is the right place for a weak or empty credit file, and often the right place even for a strong one when the amount is small and the need is short.
The two places to avoid
Unregulated loan apps — the ones that promise money with no credit check, ask for a fee first, or want your contact list — and informal moneylenders. Both are outside RBI's protections: no Key Fact Statement, no grievance officer, no Ombudsman, and in the apps' case a pattern of harassment that has been reported to the police across the country. If you cannot find the RBI-regulated lender's name, you have not found a lender.
How to get it fastest
Speed comes from the pipeline, not the place.
- A credit file that can be scored, with card balances kept low in the months before.
- Aadhaar linked to your mobile, PAN matching it, and salary credits in an account the lender can read with your consent.
- One application to several lenders rather than five separate ones — each separate application is a hard enquiry.
- The Key Fact Statement read before signing, so nothing has to be renegotiated afterwards.
Where Finsa stands
Finsa is not a lender: it reads your report with your consent and puts your profile in front of RBI-regulated banks and NBFCs, who decide eligibility, rate and approval. Checking your report through Finsa is a soft enquiry, which only you can see and which does not affect your score. Through Finsa the answer to "where" is "several places at once": the offers that come back name the bank or NBFC and carry its Key Fact Statement, the lender pays into your bank account, and Finsa charges no processing fee and no fee of any kind.
People also ask
- Is it better to get a personal loan from a bank or an NBFC?
- A bank is usually cheaper for a strong salaried profile; an NBFC is more likely to say yes to a thin or self-employed one and charges more for it. Compare the APR on each Key Fact Statement rather than the label.
- Can I get a personal loan online without visiting a branch?
- Yes, from most banks and every digital lender: PAN and Aadhaar are verified from the source, bank statements are read with your consent, and a video call replaces the branch visit.
- Where can I get a small personal loan of ₹50,000?
- Digital lenders and NBFCs specialise in small tickets, usually at higher rates than a bank would charge on a larger loan; a loan against gold or a deposit is often cheaper for the same amount if you hold either.
- Where can I get a personal loan with a low credit score?
- NBFCs and secured loans against a deposit or gold; most banks decline below about 650. Any app that promises a loan with no check is unregulated.
